Kill the RC - Spring 2009

This is the official take-off for the 2009 Spring Assassin Game. With this game, you can win a 50 USD CVS card. Only one person can win.

Here are the rules:
1) Your goal is to kill to RC (that's me, yes). Of course, you should not REALLY kill me. "Killing" is defined as follows: you need to approach me without me noticing you and touch me with your finger on my back. You have to touch me BEFORE I notice you; otherwise it does not count. You have to surprise me.
2) You cannot kill me in our building at 110 Washington Street; neither on the 4th floor in Babbio (where I work).

Take off is NOW.

I'll be watching my back!

Spring 2009 Welcome

Dear Residents,

Welcome or welcome back to our residence hall at 110 Washington Street, your new and beloved home! We are looking forward to have you join us for a new year in the graduate student community at Stevens in Hoboken.

I am Heidi, your resident coordinator, and will be helping you out with all your residence life questions and concerns. I am a fourth year PhD student in the Wesley J. Howe School for Technology Management and come from Belgium. I think 110 Washington Street is a great place to be because of its location, but even more so because we have an enormous diversity in the building which provides an enriching environment. The 110 Washington Street community is tightly-knit and feels like a small version of a peaceful world.

Some practical information:
You can reach me by e-mail (preferred), on my cell phone (201.456.6432) or by ringing the RC bell of apartment 3 if you have questions or concerns. Please try to contact me by e-mail for less urgent matters. If you have problems between 11 pm and 7 am, you have to call campus police at the center desk: 201.216.5105 unless if you are facing an emergency. Then you can wake me up :-)

NEVER lock your apartment doors from inside with the slide lock because then your roommates cannot enter with their key!

We will have our first building meeting on Sunday, January 18th at 8.30 pm. Please come to apartment 3 at 8.30 pm. There will be food for you and you will get a chance to meet all the other residents.

If you want, you can connect with me on Facebook so that when I organize an event; I can invite you. Just look for Heidi Bertels.

We also have our own website: http://www.fuzzyfrontend.be/110Wash.php. Here you can find information about how to submit work orders, how to reset routers, Hoboken's recycling schedule etc.

About the internet & wireless. Stevens' housing provides you with Internet and gives you a router. You are responsible yourself to keep the router up and running. To reset the router if you don't know the key, follow the manual on http://www.fuzzyfrontend.be/110Wash/Router_setup_off-campus.pdf. If you have tried this and still have problems, I'll pass by and take a look to see if we can fix it. But you have to try yourself first.

I will be passing by this weekend to confirm your arrival with the Office of Residence Life.

That's it for now. More information on our first building meeting soon. :-)

Again: welcome.

Stevens' furniture policy for off-campus housing

Re: Furniture policy

I hope everyone is off to a great start with their classes this semester and is enjoying living in our housing. Last week we completing our first round of apartment inspections we noticed there is a great deal of personal furniture in each apartment and I wanted to confirm that everyone is aware IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO REMOVE ALL THE NON-UNIVERSITY OWNED FURNITURE WHEN YOU LEAVE THE APARTMENT.

When you allow furniture in your apartment it is understood that everyone in the apartment takes responsibility for the furniture. For example, once one resident brings a couch into the apartment, it is everyone’s responsibility to remove the couch at the end of the semester. Our office must prepare many apartments for new residents in a small amount of time; therefore we need your help in removing all the furniture. It is not fair for everyone to move out at the end of the year and leave one person with the responsibility of removing the furniture. In addition, if a roommate leaves mid-semester, they must take their furniture with them; if the remaining residents keep the furniture, it becomes their responsibility.

This expectation also applies to the summer break. In the situation, where you currently live in an apartment and are returning to the same apartment the following fall, you may NOT leave your furniture in there over the summer. The reason is summer students will be living in these apartments over the summer and they have the right to bring their own furniture and live comfortably. We do not offer summer furniture storage.

Please be advised, if you do not remove your furniture there is a $100.00 fee per item. This includes, tables, carpets, couches, chairs, end tables, TVs, etc. We do not have the staff to remove furniture, in order to prepare our apartments; we need to hire a moving company to remove the items. The cost for removing the furniture is passed back to you.

In addition, I noticed some people hanging pictures or posters on the wall. If the pictures are taped on, please be careful not to tear the paint off the walls. I advise not putting nails in the walls. If there are any damages to the apartment, then you may be billed for the repairs.

Most of this information you are probably aware of, but I just wanted to make sure everyone has the same understanding. If you have any questions, please see your RC. Good luck in your course.
